2 Day Coracle Building Workshop
Next date: 29th & 30th October 2016
Under the expert guidance of resident craftsman Kevin Grimley, Cairn Crafts, with all materials and safety equipment provided, you will create your very own Coracle to take home with you.
Our Coracle Building Workshops take place over 2 days. You will build an Ironbridge coracle, made from ash laths and calico skin, originally built to fish the River Severn.
A coracle is a river going vessel that has been used since primitive times. They are made by hand with a wooden basket-like frame and are traditionally covered with animal hide, but more recently in canvas or synthetic materials coated with bitumen or tar to make them waterproof. Generally, British coracles carry a single person and are light enough to be carried on a person’s back for transportation.
With over 20 years experience and having built coracles to feature in Game of Thrones S2, Timeline starring Anna Friel and Billy Connelly, tv series Coast, Waterworld and Everything Must Go, resident craftsman Kevin knows a thing or two about his craft!
The course includes expert tuition, all materials and tools, lunch and refreshments for the 2 days and by the end of the weekend you will have a finished coracle to take home with you. There will also be opportunity to take one of our coracles to the water to ensure you can steer your craft!
Cost : £260 per Coracle including refreshments and lunch both days. If you would like to build your coracle with a friend or bring the family there is an additional charge of £10 per person.
B&B is available or pitch your tent in our extensive grounds at the heart of the National Forest!
